Lechmaree, West Bengal, India: A parking lot at Lechmiteen Park was the target of a massive attack that left seven people dead.
The site was hit by a suicide bomber in a suicide attack at around 2am local time (9am ET) on Saturday, which is around the time of the weekly ‘Lechmere’ event.
The blast occurred on the site where the Indian national cricket team plays their home matches in India.
As of 3am local (1:00am ET), the dead have been identified as two men, one woman, and a child, and one person has been taken to hospital.
According to local media reports, the blast took place on the parking lot where the Indians play their home games in India, and killed seven people, including two police officers.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the park on Saturday to attend the India-Pakistan match.
Lechmarese is home to one of India’s oldest cricket stadiums, the Lechmree Stadium, which has hosted cricket matches since 1934.
This year, India’s Test squad was supposed to tour the stadium, but due to the bomb attack, the team will not be able to play the match due to security reasons.
However, a team of Indian cricketers was allowed to play in the stadium.
After the blast, the police and paramilitary forces entered the stadium to clear the site of the blast.
While the blast was the worst attack in India since 2005, a number of other attacks on other cricket stadiums have been reported across the country.
Last week, a bomb was thrown into a cricket ground in Bengaluru, India, killing three people and injuring many more.
A suicide bomber had also attacked a match between the West Bengal Lions and India’s West Indies in Bengal.
In 2016, a suicide bomb attack at the Sri Lankan team’s home ground killed five people and wounded more than 20 others.
