New Scientist article Hoboken, New Jersey – A man and woman have been charged in connection with a parking lot fire that killed a woman and injured her son.
Police said the incident happened near the Hoboken Waterfront at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.
They said the woman was inside a hotel parking lot when the fire erupted.
She was able to get out safely but the man, identified by police as 25-year-old Kevin T. Pendergast, was killed at the scene.
The woman’s son, 20-year, was taken to New Jersey Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.
Pendergasts’ bail was set at $100,000 and he was ordered held without bond at the Newark Criminal Justice Center.
Authorities said they do not believe any criminal activity occurred at the parking lot.
