Police say a prostitute was shot and killed in a motel parking lot early Wednesday after being attacked by a man who claimed to be a prostitute.
The shooting happened about 6 a.m. in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn & Suites near Interstate 90 and I-75 in north suburban Glencoe.
The suspect, a 21-year-old man from the area, was described as a Hispanic man about 6 feet tall with a thin build, and was wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants, according to police.
He also had a red bandana over his face.
Police said the man walked up to the woman and tried to kiss her on the cheek, but she blocked him.
The man ran from the parking area and called 911, police said.
The woman’s body was found about 8:30 a.ms. in a pool of blood, police spokesman Capt. James T. Clark said.
Police arrested the suspect.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation, Clark said Wednesday.
The Comfort Inn is located at the corner of I-95 and South Main Street.
The police chief said the motel was closed for business Wednesday and that motel staff were told to stay inside, as police investigated.
A number of other people were in the motel at the time of the shooting, Clark added.
Anyone with information on the shooting should call police at 217-373-9090 or Crimestoppers at 217,373-TIPS.
